MARILYN MANSON & KORN’s JONATHAN DAVIS Working On Acoustic Project

MARILYN MANSON And KORN's JONATHAN DAVIS Working On Acoustic ProjectAccording to The Pulse Of Radio, Marilyn Manson says he’s working on “Southern-sounding” acoustic blues material — and that it will feature KORN‘s Jonathan Davis. Speaking in a Reddit session with fans, Manson revealed that a “completely unexpected” project he hinted at earlier this month was an unplugged record, explaining, “That’s some of the plans of the style of music that I’m working on right now. I don’t know what it’ll turn into. Some of it will be with Jonathan Davis, I think, because he has plans of doing something similar — something that might even cross over the boundaries of being more Southern-sounding.”

Manson added, “I did record [1995 EP] ‘Smells Like Children’ in Mississippi, which is where the blues came from, so there might be something more acoustic and blues in my future. I like the rawness of it.”

Davis recently posted a photo on Instagram showing him working in the studio with country duo BIG & RICH on what was dubbed a “country music project.”

Manson and Davis last joined forces in 2002 on a song called “Redeemer” for the soundtrack of the movie “Queen Of The Damned”.

The shock rocker also recently said he was working on music with actor Johnny Depp, and added that he wouldn’t be surprised if he and SMASHING PUMPKINS frontman Billy Corgan collaborated in the studio as well after their upcoming summer tour together.

The MANSON/PUMPKINS “End Of Times” tour begins on July 7 in Concord, California.

New DANZIG Album Of All-Original Material Will Not Arrive Before 2016

New DANZIG Album Of All-Original Material Will Not Arrive Before 2016Glenn Danzig‘s long-awaited covers record, “Skeletons”, will be released in Europe this fall via Evilive Music/AFM Records. A new DANZIG album of all-original material will not arrive until early 2016.

Glenn Danzig recently spoke to RollingStone.com about “Skeletons”. The CD, which was recorded with PRONG guitarist/vocalist Tommy Victor and former TYPE O NEGATIVE drummer Johnny Kelly, will include the former MISFITS frontman’s take on songs by BLACK SABBATH (“N.I.B.”), ZZ TOP (“Rough Boy”), THE TROGGS (“A Girl Like You”), THE EVERLY BROTHERS (“Crying In The Rain”) and others.

Regarding his decision to wear full skull makeup for the first time since his MISFITS days nearly 40 years ago for the “Skeletons” photo shoot, Glenn said: “I wore makeup only at a couple of live shows and maybe for a photo shoot. I think it was originally for a Halloween show, ’79, at [New York City’s] Irving Plaza. I also had the skeleton shirt and skeleton clothes on, so I was a full punk skeleton man. I can’t remember if it was that show or the next year’s Halloween show that we hung dead animal heads and limbs and carcasses all over the place. It smelled like a slaughterhouse. It looked like a slaughterhouse because it actually was.”

The singer also said that he is almost done making a new DANZIG album of all-original material. “It’s pretty much all recorded, except I keep writing extra songs so I’m gonna go back in the studio probably at the end of June,” he said. “Some of it’s very swampy and dark, some of it’s…I don’t know what the right word is. It’s pretty heavy though.”

Danzig has also been recording cover versions of Elvis songs for a possible EP release. “I’m making it a little different,” he said. “Some of the stuff I’m stripping down, bare bones, very old-school fifties echoey slap-back vocals, piano, guitar. It’s pretty much done, but every time I go back into the studio to work on a new DANZIG record, if we have time, I’m like, ‘Let’s do another song.’ So we’ll see what ends up on the record.”

GEOFF TATE’s OPERATION: MINDCRIME To Release ‘The Key’ Album In September

operationmindcrimekeycd

OPERATION: MINDCRIME, the new band led by former QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate, will release its debut album, “The Key”, on September 18 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Named after QUEENSRŸCHE‘s epic concept album from 1988, “Operation: Mindcrime”, Tate‘s new band features John Moyer (DISTURBED), drummers Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO) and Brian Tichy (WHITESNAKE, OZZY OSBOURNE), keyboardist Randy Gane (MYTH), and guitarists Kelly Gray (QUEENSRYCHE 1998 – 2001, 2012 – 2014) and Scott Moughton. The CD includes special appearances by David Ellefson (MEGADETH), Mark Daily and Scott Mercado.

OPERATION: MINDCRIME last Thursday (June 25) filmed a video for an as-yet-undisclosed song from “The Key”. The clip is one of two OPERATION: MINDCRIME videos which are being produced and directed by Seattle filmmaker and documentarian Jamie Burton Chamberlin (of Black Dahlia Films), who previously worked with DUFF MACKAGAN’S LOADED on “The Taking” series.

“The Key” will be the first part of OPERATION: MINDCRIME‘s trilogy project which Tate began recording in 2014.

Tate, who was fired from QUEENSRŸCHE in June 2012, told Heavy Metal Television about the upcoming trilogy: “I love writing stories, and I love creating musical stories, and I wanted to do something that was very in-depth. As it looks, it’s gonna take about three records to cover this story.”

He continued: “It’s an international story set in many places around the world. And it’s a bit of a mystery that I think will be interesting to follow along to see if they can solve.

“I know I always like mysteries; I like to see if I can figure out what’s happening and where things are going.”

Tate added: “I think it’s gonna be one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. I’m very excited about the music. It’s very intense and very progressive, very heavy, very light… It kind of covers a lot of ground, which I think a story should. I mean, a story shouldn’t be static; it should have different movements to it, and it should have different shades of color, so that’s what this hasm and it’s written with that in mind.”

Tate, who has always enjoyed telling stories though his music, considers the creation of the forthcoming trilogy one of his biggest and most ambitious works to date.

“I tried to reduce the story and eventually got it down to 37 ideas that needed representing to complete the story,” commented Geoff. “I knew that one record wouldn’t cover it and that it would have to be a trilogy.”

VIVIAN CAMPBELL’s LAST IN LINE Won’t Release Debut Album Before 2016

VIVIAN CAMPBELL's LAST IN LINE Won't Release Debut Album Before 2016The release date of the much-anticipated debut album from LAST IN LINE — the band featuring DEF LEPPARD guitarist Vivian Campbell alongside fellow founding DIO members Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain and Claude Schnell, plus singer Andrew Freeman, who has previously fronted HURRICANE and LYNCH MOB — has been pushed back to early 2016. The CD was recorded at a Southern California studio with producer Jeff Pilson, a veteran bassist who has played with DIO, FOREIGNER, DOKKEN and T&N, among others.

Speaking to JAM Magazine, Vivian stated about the formation of LAST IN LINE: “That came about by accident and not design. A few years ago, DEF LEPPARD were on hiatus, and I got a call from Scott Gorham from THIN LIZZY asking if I’d be interested to go on tour and play guitar with THIN LIZZY. So, of course, I said yes.”

He continued: “THIN LIZZY were such a hugely influential band to me, and the guitar players in that band — Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson, and then, in later years, Gary Moore — were a huge, huge influence on my playing. So, for me, to be on stage with Scott and with Brian Downey, the original drummer, playing those songs really re-ignited my passion for playing my instrument again. So when I came home from that tour, I called Vinny Appice and Jimmy Bain, the original drummer and bass player from the DIO band. Vinny and Jimmy and I wrote and recorded the first three DIO albums with Ronnie Dio; we did the ‘Holy Diver’ album, the ‘The Last In Line’ album and the ‘Sacred Heart’ album. So, I just wanted to play guitar again. So we went into a rehearsal room and we started playing this stuff. And it had been over 27 years since we played [together], but it could have been 27 minutes, because the chemistry was still there and it was very immediate. So, one thing led to another. We kind of said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we actually had a singer to kind of complete it, to round it out?’ And Vinny suggested this guy called Andrew Freeman that he knew, and Andy only lived about ten minutes away, so he literally called him there and then. Andy was available, Andy drove down to the rehearsal room, and he started singing. And I just got goosebumps on my arms, because it was so emotionally powerful to be able to play these songs again with Vinny and Jimmy. But Andy was bringing an equal amount of passion and power to it that Ronnie would have brought, but he had a totally different sound to his voice, a whole different tonality. And that really got me thinking about… If he had walked in there sounding just like Ronnie, it would have been creepy. But the fact that he had equal power but sounded totally different got me thinking that this would be a different kind of a take on these original songs.”

He went on to say: “So we booked some shows, and we played songs from the first three [DIO] albums. We called the band LAST IN LINE after the second DIO album. And the response was really, really, really good. And we weren’t thinking about doing new music, but we actually got offered a record deal by an Italian label called Frontiers Records. So, we thought, ‘Well, why not? If somebody is offering us a budget to make the record.’ So we went in the studio and we started writing, and it was very immediate, it was very, very easy. In fact, [the songs came together] the way they did when we were writing ‘Holy Diver’. It all started with Jimmy and Vinny and myself getting into a room, just the three of us, exchanging musical ideas. And Ronnie would come down later and we’d play him what we had and he would sit in the back of the room with a notepad, and he’d write lyrics and then he’d get up and he’d sing. And within four or five or six hours, we’d have [a song written]. And that’s kind of how this happened.”

Regarding the collaboration with Pilson, Campbell said: “I’ve known Jeff as a musician and as a friend for years, but I had no idea how great a rock producer he is. And he really blew me away. It was the perfect marriage between us. And the record, we knew it was gonna be good, but it far exceeded all of our expectations. So we are extremely excited about it.”

Vivian also explained the decision to wait until next year before releasing the LAST IN LINE debut. He said: “The reason why we’re waiting ’till 2016 to release it is because I want to be available to tour the record. I think it deserves being given the opportunity.” He added: “In fact, the very first single we’re gonna do is… DEF LEPPARD is going on a cruise in January, for four or five days, out of Miami, and LAST IN LINE is gonna be one of the guest acts on the cruise. So that’ll be the [launch gig for] the band [in support of] the new record.”

Asked if the LAST IN LINE material sounds like the classic DIO albums, Vivian told Eddie Trunk I na recent interview: “The majority of it… Well, actually, I wouldn’t say the majority of it… I would say a good 50 percent of the songs would sound right at home on those first three DIO albums, and the others have a bit more of a modern edge to them. I mean, when you get Vinny and Jimmy and I playing, it sounds like the early DIO records, ’cause that’s what it is. Obviously, Andy is a very, very different singer, he’s got a very different instrument, and he writes lyrics very differently. I’m very, very impressed with where Andy has gone lyrically on the record, too; that’s another thing. So it’s great. It is so epic sounding. We’ve got some amazing songs on this, and I’m hyper excited about it, as you can probably tell.”

GLENN DANZIG’s ‘Skeletons’ Covers Album To Include Songs By BLACK SABBATH, ZZ TOP & More

GLENN DANZIG's 'Skeletons' Covers Album To Include Songs By BLACK SABBATH, ZZ TOP, THE TROGGS, THE EVERLY BROTHERSGlenn Danzig recently spoke to RollingStone.com about his long-awaited covers record, “Skeletons”, which is tentatively due this summer.

New DISTURBED ‘Immortalized’ Album Due In August

disturbedimmortalizedcover

After a four-year hiatus, Grammy Award-nominated, multiplatinum hard rock titans DISTURBED have announced their return with their sixth studio album, titled “Immortalized”, to be released August 21 through Reprise Records. Lead single “The Vengeful One” is out now, along with the accompanying animated video from award-winning filmmaker Phil Mucci, and “Immortalized” is available for pre-order everywhere today. The upcoming release follows 2010’s gold-certified “Asylum”, DISTURBED‘s fourth consecutive #1 on the Billboard Top 200, and the group’s subsequent four-year hiatus, which gave members David Draiman (vocals), Dan Donegan (guitar), Mike Wengren (drums) and John Moyer (bass) the necessary reprieve to make this imminent and deliberate return.

“The idea was to leave when we were at our peak, which we were, and to come back when we felt reinvigorated,” asserts Draiman. “We had basically been going nonstop since 1998,” adds Wengren. “We got to do our own things. It didn’t take too long until the itch started coming back.” And Donegan agrees: “We wanted to return when we collectively had that fire underneath us. We missed it so much that we could tap into this energy and deliver the right album. We did it on our own terms.”

In January 2014, Draiman, Donegan, and Wengren met for dinner in their hometown of Chicago. Shortly thereafter, without notifying friends, families, or their label, the three began to fly back and forth to each other’s respective home studios for writing sessions, marking the beginnings of “Immortalized” and the first time they collectively wrote together since 2001.

“For this album, everything was written in the same room,” Draiman remarks. “It was wonderful experiencing how it used to be back in the day for us. That became apparent in the material, whether it was the passion of the performance, the power being harnessed, or the feelings evoked. We could feel the difference.”

To push themselves further, the group headed to Las Vegas’ Hideout Recordings to work alongside producer Kevin Churko (OZZY OSBOURNE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH). “The goal was to find a producer we felt creatively comfortable with, but who could challenge us and spark a new evolution,” said Donegan. “Churko did that.”

The resulting record features the unshakable first single “The Vengeful One”. “Musically, it’s got that old school metal sound,” says Donegan. “It’s definitely DISTURBED!” and it is, along with an outside-the-box cover of SIMON & GARFUNKEL‘s “The Sound Of Silence”, unlike anything in the group’s catalog.

“I think the fans will feel like it was worth the wait,” says Donegan. “We’ve been planning this for the past year and keeping it a secret so we can’t wait to hear the response. I hope fans realize we have a lot more left in us. This album reassured me of that. To be away from it for almost 5 years, get back in a room, write together, and tap into that fire is awesome. Part of me didn’t want to leave the studio! We still have a lot more to say. We still have a lot more to do. We’re returning stronger than ever. I think ‘Immortalized’ shows that.”

MOTÖRHEAD‘s much-anticipated 22nd studio album, “Bad Magic”, will be released on August 28. Bristling with thunderous attitude, pioneering spirit and some of the fiercest rhythms and riffs that’ll beat your ears into submission this year, “Bad Magic” is a massive kick in the teeth for anyone who dared believe it might be otherwise. Indeed, if those people still remain, they would do well to grab some big fat earplugs, fall to their knees and pray like buggery, because big-rig head crushers like “Thunder & Lightning” and the especially l-o-u-d “Teach ‘Em How To Bleed” show that MOTÖRHEAD are as strong, mean, loud, relentless, uncompromising and goddam heavy as ever.

Drawing on their own vast catalogue of road-warrior freewheeling rock’n’roll spirit, “Bad Magic” also strides confidently into some of the earlier attitudes of Motörmusic. Written and recorded in the studio together, for the first time in the Kilmister/Campbell/Dee era, the more “live” approach to creating “Bad Magic” has obviously paid dividends in this regard. There is the driving malevolence of “Choking On Your Screams”, with Lemmy in magnificently omnipotent vocal mood, “Electricity” carries a hefty chunk of punk attitude married with some of Phil Campbell‘s best lead work in years, while “Shoot Out All Of Your Lights” is all devilish, greasy biker-borne-screw-you-and yours, Mikkey Dee‘s tribal drums pounding out a great path for more Kilmister proclamations. The boys even enjoyed a guest appearance from QUEEN‘s Brian May on “The Devil”, adding a scintillating solo on this thunderous Motörstomper.

Produced at NRG Studios with long-time producer Cameron Webb, “Bad Magic” came together after a couple of years which saw MOTÖRHEAD enjoy their most successful international era in over two decades off the back of their last release “Aftershock”. Lemmy also finally decided to face the fact he is flesh, blood and mortal like all of us, adjusting his lifestyle to kick the ass of health issues and re-emerging stronger, leaner and meaner than ever. His own personal performances on “Bad Magic” rank as some of the most wide-ranging and unique he has delivered in years, and on the ballad “Until The End”, Lemmy opens up with equal levels explanation and intent on the simple but important matters which life conjures for us all. Add to all of this a wonderfully executed, gritty delivery of THE ROLLING STONES classic “Sympathy For The Devil”, and it will be clear to anyone with a pair of ears that “Bad Magic” is MOTÖRHEAD‘s finest work in over two decades.

“Bad Magic” track listing:

01. Victory Or Die
02. Thunder & Lightning
03. Fire Storm Hotel
04. Shoot Out All Of Your Lights
05. The Devil
06. Electricity
07. Evil Eye
08. Teach Them How To Bleed
09. Till The End
10. Tell Me Who To Kill

SLASH To Record New Album In The Spring

SLASH To Record New Album In The Spring Slash and his band — MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS — are scheduled to stay on the road until the end of the year, after which they will take a short break before beginning work on the follow-up to their 2014 album “World On Fire”.

“We’re working on new material for the next record,” Slash tells Billboard.com. “When this tour’s over we’ll start going in and doing some pre-production and probably go into the studio some time in mid-to-late spring and record.”

Regarding how the new songs are shaping up, Slash says: “They sound very rhythmic and that’s definitely something that, for me personally, I’m going for. We’ll see what that turns into. It changes. It sort of evolves; you start out with one idea and that sort of morphs into another idea. At this point it sounds like it’s going to be really awesome, so I’m excited about it.”

Slash recently told Classic Rock magazine about his songwriting approach: “On the road is the platform that I find is the easiest for me to work on new material,” he said. “It’s easier here than it is for me to do when I’m at home. So I just get going. I take my phone and I record ideas on the phone and then we jam stuff at soundchecks; when we have soundchecks. So we compile a bunch of ideas, and then when the tour is over, we go home and, sort of, hash them out.”

“World On Fire” sold around 29,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 10 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores on September 16, 2014 via Slash‘s own label Dik Hayd International distributed through Roadrunner Records (Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America).

“World On Fire” is the second album to feature Slash‘s regular backing band, MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS, and follows up 2012’s “Apocalyptic Love”, which sold around 38,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 4 on The Billboard 200 chart.

On Slash self-titled solo effort he employed a different vocalist on each track, before settling on ALTER BRIDGE member Kennedy for both touring and eventually recording.
