FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH ‘A Decade Of Destruction’ Greatest Hits Album Details Revealed

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will release a greatest-hits album, “A Decade Of Destruction”, on December 1. The compilation will include two new tracks — the first new music the band has released in over two years. Pre-order the collection now.

In conjunction with today’s announcement, the rock juggernauts have released one of the new tracks from the album, titled “Trouble”. Check out the lyric video for the single below.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH‘s seventh full-length studio album will be released in spring 2018 via Prospect Park in North America and Eleven Seven Music internationally. The album follows their critically acclaimed 2015 chart-topping hit album “Got Your Six”, which featured No. 1 single “Wash It All Away” and was certified gold in 2016.

“A Decade Of Destruction” track listing:

01. Trouble (new song)
02. Gone Away (new song)

13. Coming Down

16. Far From Home

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH already completed its seventh studio effort almost a year ago, but contractual issues with Prospect Park has delayed its arrival.

Guitarist Jason Hook told SpazioRock: “Everybody that’s heard the record so far thinks it’s our best record. I’m super excited about it. I thought we fucking knocked it out of the park. There’s some really cool, different things on there that are slightly different for us. There’s certainly a chunk of what you would expect from FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, but there’s some solid songs that are slightly outside of our regular box. But everyone thinks it’s a smash.”

Prospect Park initially sued FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH in 2016 for breach of contract, alleging that the group wanted to rush the recording of a new album. The company claimed that the band’s contract prohibited it from beginning to record a new effort until at least nine months had passed since the release of the previous one.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH signed a new North American recording deal with Rise Records last year. They also filed a lawsuit against Prospect Park in April, asking a judge to release them from their contract and order the company to pay over a million dollars in damages.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has also dealt with singer Ivan Moody‘s struggles with substance abuse, which forced him to miss a number of shows last year and this past spring.

The band is currently preparing to embark on the biggest European arena rock tour of fall 2017. They’ll be on the road co-headlining with IN FLAMES and special guests OF MICE & MEN.

GWAR’s MIKE DERKS a.k.a. BÄLSÄC THE JAWS ‘O DEATH Diagnosed With Myelofibrosis

GWAR Guitarist MIKE DERKS, a.k.a. BÄLSÄC THE JAWS 'O DEATH, Diagnosed With Myelofibrosis

Longtime GWAR guitarist Michael Derks, who performs as BälSäc The Jaws ‘O Death, has been diagnosed with myelofibrosis, a serious bone marrow disorder that disrupts the body’s normal production of blood cells.

Derks revealed his medical condition via post on DKMS, an international nonprofit dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders, in which he said that he “began to experience extreme fatigue and weakness” while he was out with GWAR on this past summer’s Vans Warped Tour. “Eventually it got to the point where the people around me insisted that I go to the hospital,” he wrote. “I was treated for severe anemia, but extensive testing did not reveal a cause. When I got home, my hemoglobin levels continued to fall and the only course of treatment has been a series of blood transfusions to keep my red and white blood cells from dropping to dangerous levels. I went for further testing at the Massey Cancer Center at MCV and the doctors there have diagnosed me with myelofibrosis, a disease that causes scarring inside of the bones and interferes with the marrow’s ability to produce blood cells. If left to run its course, the doctors say I am most likely to only survive another three to five years.

“There is a treatment with a chance of curing my condition, a bone marrow transplant,” he continued. “This procedure involves destroying my diseased bone marrow with high doses of chemotherapy, and then replacing it with healthy marrow from a donor. I will hopefully have the transplant early next year. I will spend a month in the hospital and then at least a year in recovery, where my immune system will be practically non-existent. The procedure has a mortality rate of 30%, but the Massey Center has brought this down to around 15%. With my family’s help and the support of my friends, I will beat this.

“Since the only thing I can do while the doctors try to find a matching donor is to get myself physically fit, I’ve decided to not let the impending hospitalization keep me from doing what I enjoy most, performing with GWAR,” Derks said. “I will be joining them on the upcoming North American tour where we will be playing many of the songs from our new album, ‘The Blood Of Gods’, a record that I am prouder of than anything else I’ve put out in my 30-year career.

“I will be using labs across the country to monitor my blood over the next two months as we travel and will probably have to leave the tour at least once to come home for a transfusion, but as hard as the road can be, I look forward to the curative effect it can have on my soul. Everyone I have told about my condition have asked what they can do to help.

“I have teamed up with the incredible people at Love Hope Strength to offer a way for my friends and fans to not only help me, but all of the thousands of people out there in need of a bone marrow transplant. We are running a virtual drive to find donors to join the international registry of people willing to save a stranger’s life. So, please, if you are willing and able, become a donor today. There is no obligation, it will just allow you to find out if there is someone out there who’s life you could save.”

“The Blood Of Gods” was released on October 20 via Metal Blade. The disc was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Ronan Chris “Lord God” Murphy and will be made available in standard CD, 2LP colored vinyl and digital formats.

PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS (formerly PHIL CAMPBELL’S ALL STARR BAND), the band featuring MOTÖRHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell alongside his sons Todd, Dane and Tyla, plus vocalist Neil Starr, has announced the details of its upcoming debut album.

Titled “The Age Of Absurdity”, the disc was recorded at Rockfield Studios and Longwave Studios in Wales and produced, engineered, and mixed by Romesh Dodangoda. The record was then passed over to the acclaimed Abbey Road Studios in London for mastering.

The album will feature eleven songs and one bonus track and will be released on January 26, 2018 via Nuclear Blast. The album will be available in various formats, with pre-orders launching soon.

Commented Phil Campbell: “I am really excited for the fans to hear our debut record. Every part of the process was done in Wales, from the writing, to the recording and even the artwork!

“The album title, ‘The Age Of Absurdity’, was inspired by the crazy world we live in today. The world to me seems to be a bit of a theater show, so the album artwork idea just seemed to fit so well with the whole concept and album title.”

Added Starr: “Writing and recording this album was a lot of fun. We got to record at Rockfield Studios where so many great artists had been over the years — it really was inspirational. Hearing the blistering riffs that the Campbell family seem to churn out effortlessly made me ensure I pushed myself to the limits when writing the melodies and lyrics. It’s an album that I, and the rest of the band, are very proud of and can’t wait to share it with the world!”

The Age Of Absurdity” track listing:

01. Ringleader
02. Freak Show
03. Skin And Bones
04. Gypsy Kiss
05. Welcome To Hell
06. Dark Days

HELLOWEEN North American ‘Pumpkins United’ Tour Dates Announced

The reunited expanded classic lineup of German power metallers HELLOWEEN — featuring seven musicians, including former vocalist Michael Kiske and guitarist Kai Hansen alongside current singer Andi Deris and guitarist Sascha Gerstner — has announced the North American leg of its “Pumpkins United” world tour. The trek will kick off on September 7, 2018 in Las Vegas and conclude on September 15, 2018 in New York.

Confirmed dates:

Sept. 07 – Las Vegas, NV – House Of Blues
Sept. 08 – Los Angeles, CA – Palladium
Sept. 10 – Chicago, IL – Concord Music Hall
Sept. 12 – Montreal, QC – MTELUS
Sept. 14 – Worcester, MA – Palladium
Sept. 15 – New York, NY – Irving Plaza

The first show of the “Pumpkins United” tour took place on October 19 at Escena in Monterrey, Mexico. The concert marked the first time Kiske has played live with HELLOWEEN since his 1993. Hansen, who also departed HELLOWEEN in 1988, has been joining the band onstage on various tours and festival appearances throughout the years. The set featured several duets with Kiske and his replacement, Deris, along with many rarely played songs, including “Kids Of The Century”, “Rise And Fall” and “Livin’ Ain’t No Crime”. Hansen — who fronted HELLOWEEN until late 1986 — sang a medley of several early HELLOWEEN classics, including “Ride The Sky”, “Judas”, “Starlight” and “Heavy Metal (Is The Law)”. The show concluded with a video tribute to original drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg, who passed away in 1995.

Guitarist Michael Weikath told Spain’s Metal Journal that Hansen was the first to suggest the idea of a tour like “Pumpkins United”. But the reunion wasn’t put into motion until Weikath had a conversation with Kiske at a metal festival in France. The guitarist recalled: “I said to [Kiske], basically, ‘You shouldn’t be too angry. You just must understand me. Back at that time, I saw myself as the one to put things into the right direction in HELLOWEEN, and the fact was nobody wanted to record another record with you, so I had to find a solution, or an opinion, and I had to state it to you, and this is how things came about back then. And I hope you can maybe forgive me about that, if I tell you this. Just try to understand me, what was going on back then.’ And he said, ‘Maybe I’ve already forgiven you. I don’t know.'”

Regarding how long he went without talking to Michael Kiske before they reconnected at the aforementioned French festival, Weikath said: “Ever since [he left the band], after [1993’s] ‘Chameleon’ [album]. ‘Cause we didn’t know how to touch that subject and whatever, and you could see from the press and his comments that there was understandable discrepancy in our relationship. It was always, like, ‘Kai Hansen has said this about you, Weiki, and Michael Kiske has said this about you, Weiki. And what do you say?’ And so I was always firing back. And that’s not necessary anymore if we have these talks going and everything. And, basically, there’s a time to be a little bit adult and grown up about things. Because so much time passed, there can’t possibly be much more trouble, because everyone involved has more or less proven what he is capable of on his own and what he would be. Michael Kiske has been doing the solo records as they are, he’s been involved in projects as they are and as they were, we’ve been doing the HELLOWEEN thing, and Kai Hansen has been doing his stuff. So everybody presented to the public what everyone was capable of. And so that’s the history, that’s all behind that whole thing. And what is there to quarrel or worry or fight about? There’s nothing.”

The British heavy metal legends have spent the last few months in the studio recording the follow-up to 2014’s “Redeemer Of Souls” with the band’s longtime collaborator Tom Allom, acclaimed British knob-twiddler Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, EXODUS, TESTAMENT, ACCEPT) and engineer Mike Exeter (BLACK SABBATH).

During an October 5 appearance on the “Trunk Nation” show on SiriusXM channel Volume, singer Rob Halford stated about the progress of the recording sessions for PRIEST‘s new disc: “We’re almost done. We’re in that final hurdle before we get to the finishing line. It is sounding monumental. It’s gonna blow your socks off. We’re thrilled. We’ve got this big metal monster looming in the background, about to drop early next year, with a world tour to coincide.”

Asked what it has been like collaborating again with Allom, who produced every PRIEST release from “Unleashed In The East” (1979) through “Ram It Down” (1988), along with several live records since then, Halford said: “Brilliant. Absolutely fantastic. Tom has a rich history with PRIEST, particularly those great moments with ‘Screaming For Vengeance’, ‘Defenders Of The Faith’ [and] ‘British Steel’. My God — he’s the man in that respect. So I thought it was really great for Andy Sneap and Mike Exeter to accept that this was gonna be like a three-man job, with Andy mostly holding the reins, but with Tom by his side and Mike there [as well].

“It’s an unusual way to make this kind of record for PRIEST, because it’s generally the producer and the band,” Halford admitted. “We just had so much faith in Andy and in Tom and Mike that we said, ‘Guys, you go for it. You tell us what to do.’ And if Andy Sneap said, ‘Do another take, Rob. Do another take, Rob. Do another take, Rob. ‘… I’ve never sung so much in the studio behind a mic in all my life. But he got the results that we needed, and I think I can say the same for Glenn [Tipton, guitar] and for Richie [Faulkner, guitar] and for Scott [Travis, drums] and for Ian [Hill, bass]. So he got something out of us — they all did — but they got something out of us truly remarkable, and you’re gonna be hearing it very soon.”

Sneap, who plays guitar in the reactivated British occult metal act HELL, recently told Serbia’s Hardwired magazine that PRIEST had “about twenty-six ideas” in the early stage of the production process for the new album. “We’ve whittled [that] down to fourteen or fifteen,” he said, adding that “we haven’t decided on which songs [will make the final cut] or a running order for the album yet.”

Andy went on to say that PRIEST‘s new album will contain “a really good energy and some real classic moments.” He said “Rob did great” during the album’s final recording sessions. “I’ll tell you what: for someone who’s got that much experience, there’s no ego there at all,” he said. “We’d do, like, six or seven passes, and I’d ask him to try something a bit [different] on this part, and he was, like, ‘No problem.’ And he’d give me another four takes with a slightly different vibe. And then me and Tom Allom would sit there and we’d comp it, and we pretty much agreed on everything.”

PRIEST was nominated for induction into the 2018 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, part of a list of nineteen potential candidates.

Inductees into the 2018 Rock Hall will be voted on by a group of more than nine hundred artists, historians and music-industry professionals.

The 2018 inductees will be announced in December and the induction ceremony will be held at Cleveland’s Public Auditorium on April 14, 2018.

JOE ELLIOTT’s DOWN ‘N’ OUTZ To Release ‘The Further Live Adventures Of …’ In December

DOWN ‘N’ OUTZ will release a brand new live album, “The Further Live Adventures Of …”, on December 1 via Frontiers Music Srl. The disc, recorded in Sheffield Corporation in December 2014, will be available 2CD/DVD, Blu-ray, vinyl and digital. In addition, on the same day, the band will reissue its previous records “My Re-Generation” and “The Further Adventures Of …” on CD, LP and digital.

The DOWN ‘N’ OUTZ is the project founded and fronted by DEF LEPPARD‘s Joe Elliott and backed by members of THE QUIREBOYS, WAYWARD SONS and RAW GLORY. The band pays tribute to rock legends MOTT THE HOOPLE and was established from the most unusual of circumstances. In the words of Joe Elliott: “When MOTT THE HOOPLE announced they were reforming for a week’s worth of shows at the Hammersmith Odeon, I was asked that I participate in some capacity. They’ve always been my favourite band and it’s nice to see the rest of the rock world finally catch up and give them their due.

“But, what was I to do? It was suggested to me that THE QUIREBOYS would be up for offering their services. This was perfect! A fan since their first album, I loved the idea of working with a band as enthusiastic to do this as I was. I decided that the thing to do was play some songs that like-minded people thought they would never hear live again, if ever, songs by spin offs of MOTT THE HOOPLE — songs by MOTT, Ian Hunter and BRITISH LIONS. Songs that are close to my heart, songs that I’ve played every week for the best part of thirty-five years on record, cassette, CD, iPod and now live.”

The DOWN ‘N OUTZ supported MOTT THE HOOPLE at one of their legendary 2009 reformation shows at Hammersmith Odeon. Following a rapturous reception, the one-night-project took on a life and energy of its own and an album project was born.

The band then decided to record an album, “My Re-Generation”, produced by Elliott and Ronan McHugh (DEF LEPPARD), which was recorded in Elliott‘s personal studio with basic tracking done at Moor Hall studio Bedfordshire by engineer Chris Corney. The album featured entirely covers of songs by artists related to MOTT THE HOOPLE, such as tracks by MOTT, BRITISH LIONS and Ian Hunter.

The band made an appearance at the 2010 High Voltage festival in the U.K., launched their own branded beer, and also announced it would be performing with Paul Rodgers in April 2011 as the opening act on the latter’s U.K. tour.

On April 21, 2014, DOWN ‘N’ OUTZ released their second studio album, “The Further Adventures Of…” Classic Rock wrote: “‘Further Adventures’ raises the bar for MOTT THE HOOPLE covers while giving timeless songs a new lease of life, as classics deserving of a new audience.”

In addition to Elliott (vocals, guitar, keyboards), the band features THE QUIREBOYSPaul Guerin (guitar), Guy Griffin (guitar), Keith Weir (keyboards), drummer Phil Martini (WAYWARD SONS) and bassist Share Ross (VIXEN).
