“The Dark Project”, the debut album from FRAGILE MORTALS, the new band that combines hip-hop legend Darryl “DMC” McDaniels (RUN-D.M.C.) with the metal group GENERATION KILL — featuring vocalist Rob Dukes (ex-EXODUS) and bassist Rob Moschetti (ex-PRO-PAIN, M.O.D.) — will be made available for digital download on July 13.

A 42-minute video featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the disc can be seen below.

“The Dark Project” is expected to include “Fired Up” and “Suicide”, the two singles that were released last year via Bumblefoot Music, the record label of artist/producer Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (ART OF ANARCHY, ex-GUNS N’ ROSES), who also produced and added additional guitar solos to the tracks. “Suicide” is also featured in the audio version of DMC‘s memoir, “Ten Ways Not To Commit Suicide”, which came out last July.

Stemming from a chance meeting between Dukes and DMC, an initial one-track collaboration for a DMC solo album turned into a full-on force, as FRAGILE MORTALS was born. The band then recruited the ear of Thal as producer, and their combined creative vision has allowed the band to grow further than expected. Lending the occasional guitar riff and solo to the tracks, Ron‘s contributions earned him the title of unofficial seventh member.

Addressing issues ranging from suicide, drug abuse, prostitution, life and death, and racism, “The Dark Project” also offers a glimmer of hope and light at the end of a gritty tunnel, exposing the darker side of humanity without glorifying it in any way.

FRAGILE MORTALS offers the listener an intellectual look into real-world issues, as the music takes you on a journey, serving as the soundtrack to this all-too-real story.

BMG recently announced it has signed a worldwide recording deal with A PERFECT CIRCLE. The band is in the studio working on material for a new full-length album, to be released later in the year.

A PERFECT CIRCLE formed in 1999 with principal members Billy Howerdel (ASHES DIVIDE) and Maynard James Keenan (TOOL, PUSCIFER) creating a fluid band where lineups were free to shift with each ensuing album. The band’s current lineup is Howerdel, Keenan, James Iha (THE SMASHING PUMPKINS), Jeff Friedl (DEVO, THE BETA MACHINE) and Matt McJunkins (EAGLES OF DEATH METAL, THE BETA MACHINE).

Jon Cohen, EVP Recorded Music at BMG, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome A PERFECT CIRCLE to BMG and excited to present their highly anticipated new music to the world. Their uncompromising approach, vision and legion of fans have made them one of the most artistic and commercially successful acts in rock.”

A PERFECT CIRCLE has been largely inactive on the recording front for the past 13 years, with only a new song titled “By And Down” surfacing on a hits collection in 2013.

The group was an instant success when it first came on the scene in 2000 with its debut album, “Mer De Noms”, and Howerdel explained a while back how he felt about the band’s early success. “I was appreciative then, I’m certainly appreciative now of how everything came together — how all the forces came together and made it happen, and all the timing worked out, with the NINE INCH NAILS tour, opening for them, and, you know, having key people at Virgin Records believe in us and ferociously campaign to market the band in the right way, and Maynard‘s reputation with TOOL in place… everything just came together.”

During the time that the band has been mostly on hiatus, Howerdel launched an act called ASHES DIVIDE, while Maynard James Keenan toured and recorded with TOOL and PUSCIFER while also running a winery.

Howerdel said: “To be honest, I thought [a comeback] would be a few years earlier… It felt like a few years ago it was going to happen, but this is just the way the schedules lined up. But I’m always excited to get the machine back up and going.”

HALESTORM is collaborating with Nick Raskulinecz on material for the band’s fourth album. At least some of the sessions are taking place at the Dark Horse Recording studios just outside Nashville.

Raskulinecz is an acclaimed producer who has previously worked with RUSH, KORN, ALICE IN CHAINS and DEFTONES, in addition to having helmed HALESTORM‘s third covers EP, “ReAniMate 3.0: The CoVeRs eP”, which came out in January.

Lzzy recently told the 97.7 WQLZ radio station that HALESTORM was “about half way” through the production process for the band’s next album. She said: “We have a lot of tracks. We’ve been kind of doing both [recording and working on pre-production]. We’ve been writing in my personal studio, at my house, and then we’ve been going into an actual studio with a producer and doing kind of pre-pro as we go along, which we’ve never really done. ‘Cause usually, it’s, like, ‘Okay, we have all the songs together, and then we’ll go in the studio.’ And this time we have like half-songs and then we go in the studio and we finish them. We have some keeper song takes and there’s maybe some vocal or guitar takes that we won’t redo later, but, yeah, it’s everything all at once at the same time, so we’re multitasking.”

“ReAniMate 3.0: The CoVeRs eP” featured an eclectic mix of songs from artists like METALLICA, SOUNDGARDEN, JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS, SOPHIE B. HAWKINS, TWENTY ONE PILOTS and WHITESNAKE.

SAXON To Release ‘Thunderbolt’ Album In January

British heavy metal legends SAXON have set “Thunderbolt as the title of their new album, tentatively due in January 2018. The follow-up to 2015’s “Battering Ram” is once again being recorded with British producer Andy Sneap, who has previously worked with MEGADETH, EXODUS and TESTAMENT, among others.

SAXON singer Biff Byford last year revealed that the band’s forthcoming disc would include a song dedicated to MOTÖRHEAD. “[It’s] called ‘They Played Rock And Roll’, ’cause that’s what Lemmy [late MOTÖRHEAD frontman] used to say every night [from the stage],” Byford told Sonic Shocks. “It’s basically about early MOTÖRHEAD — ’79/’80 MOTÖRHEAD, like around ‘No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith’, ’cause that’s the tour we were on, that one. So, yeah, it’s about the band, really, and their music.”

According to Biff, “They Played Rock And Roll” will be musically similar to Lemmy and Co. He explained: “I asked Nibbs [Carter, SAXON bassist] to write me some music that was like MOTÖRHEAD, and he did. So it sounds very MOTÖRHEAD-ish, but not MOTÖRHEAD, if you know what I mean.”

“Battering Ram” was released in North America via UDR Music. The effort featured Byford alongside Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt on guitar, Nibbs Carter on bass and Nigel Glockler on drums.

Due to demand following their hugely successful tour together in March and April, SAXON and UFO have announced more dates in the U.S., plus two in Canada, in September and October.

OVERKILL‘s latest album, “The Grinding Wheel”, was released on February 10 via Nuclear Blast. The disc was produced by OVERKILL and mixed by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, EXODUS, ACCEPT). The artwork was created again by Travis Smith (NEVERMORE, OPETH, SOILWORK, DEATH).

OVERKILL recently announced the addition of drummer Jason Bittner (SHADOWS FALL, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM) to the group’s ranks.

Even though Ron Lipnicki had been part of OVERKILL‘s lineup for more than a decade, the drummer was absent from the band’s last few tours, with OVERKILL‘s longtime drum tech, Eddy Garcia, stepping in to take his place.

CROWBAR‘s eleventh album, “The Serpent Only Lies”, was released last October. The cover artwork was created by renowned artist Eliran Kantor, who has previously worked with bands like HATEBREED, SOULFLY and KATAKLYSM.

Rob Zombie is planning to enter the studio this summer to begin work on the follow-up to last year’s “The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser” album. The rocker-turned-film-director told Kerrang! Radio at last weekend’s Download festival in the U.K.: “Right now we’re just doing shows all summer, then we’re starting a new record in August. And then I won’t start a new movie till next year, ’cause it’s all music for the rest of this year. So that’s about it.”

Rob added that his band will continue to play scattered shows while making the new disc. He explained: “These days, as everybody knows, there’s not really like a proper album cycle where you make an album and you just tour it to death, because no one really gives a shit if anyone’s making records that much anymore.”

While rock radio has largely stopped playing his newer records, fans are continuing to embrace new music from Rob Zombie. The week of its release, “The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser” debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard album chart and was the only rock record in the top 30. It would have been No. 4, if two previously released Prince albums weren’t near the top of the chart.

Several of Zombie‘s singles from “The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser”, including “In The Age Of The Consecrated Vampire We All Get High” and “Well, Everybody’s Fucking In A U.F.O.”, were accompanied by their respective attention-grabbing videos, a trend that is likely to continue with the upcoming effort.

“I love making videos,” Rob told Kerrang! Radio. “We made more videos for the last record than we’ve made in the last ten years, because that’s all that matters. People go, ‘Oh, no one listens to music.’ Yeah, they do, but they watch it at the same time. I mean, you look at a video and go, ‘Wow, it’s got fifty million views.’ Well, you didn’t get fifty million views on fucking MTV. It’s great!”

“The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser” was released on April 29, 2016 via UMe/T-Boy Records. The disc was produced by Chris “Zeuss” Harris and features Zombie alongside John 5, Piggy D. and drummer Ginger Fish.
