AMON AMARTH Announces U.S. Tour

After touring the world this past year in support of their latest album, “Jomsviking”, Swedish death metallers AMON AMARTH will head back out on the road this spring for a U.S. tour with Metal Blade labelmates GOATWHORE. Starting April 30 and running through May 21, the journey will also see AMON AMARTH making appearances at some of the country’s premier music festivals, including Welcome To Rockville, Carolina Rebellion, Dark Lord Day, Northern Invasion and Rock On The Range.

AMON AMARTH comments: “United States! We return to your lands this spring and we will raid and plunder your little cities as we please. For the first time, we will be sailing our longships towards the curious native celebrations called ‘The Loudest Month’ (Welcome To Rockville, Northern Invasion, Carolina Rebellion and Rock On The Range) where we will sack and burn them to the ground and feast on the spoils. Our good friends in the almighty GOATWHORE will be joining us on this voyage on all headlining shows. You have been warned.”

GOATWHORE vocalist Ben Falgoust adds: “We are looking forward to hitting the road with AMON AMARTH and playing some raw-as-fuck metal for you people. Show up with your anger and let’s make some chaos happen. I know you all need to vent some issues. Let’s do it together and crush the opposition.”

AMON AMARTH‘s tenth studio album, “Jomsviking”, debuted at No. 19 on The Billboard 200, having shifted 21,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 31, 2016.

“Jomsviking” was released on March 25 via Metal Blade in North America and Sony Music internationally. The first concept record in AMON AMARTH‘s storied career tells a tragic tale of love and revenge, backed by the Swedes’ trademark melodic, anthemic metal, which was produced and mixed once again by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, ACCEPT). The epic original story is set in the world of the Jomsvikings, the legendary order of mercenary Vikings.

Jocke Wallgren was named AMON AMARTH‘s new permanent drummer in September. Jocke had been sitting behind the kit for all shows on the group’s current “Jomsviking” world tour.

Finland’s Biggest Heavy Metal Festival TUSKA Celebrates 20th Anniversary In 2017

Finland's Biggest Heavy Metal Festival TUSKA Celebrates 20th Anniversary In 2017

HIM, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, MAYHEM, APOCALYPTICA, DIRKSCHNEIDER and SONATA ARCTICA are among the confirmed bands for the 20th-anniversary edition of the Tuska festival, set to take place June 30 – July 2 in Helsinki, Finland.

The festival billing is shaping up as follows:

Friday, June 30:

Saturday, July 1:

Sunday, July 2:

More bands will be announced soon.

The 2016 edition of the Tuska festival saw 28,000 fans gathered at Suvilahti, formerly an energy production area, a present-day venue for festivals, flea markets and graffiti, located in Helsinki’s Sörnäinen district.

The festival offers a variety of ticket options: from 255 euros for the three-day Tuska Turbo VIP package to 129 euros for a normal three-day ticket and 105 and 75 euros for a two- or one-day ticket, respectively. Tickets can be exchanged for wristbands at the festival site.

In a 2016 interview with Festicket, Tuska organizer and promoter Eeka Mäkynen stated about Finland’s mainstream acceptance of the heavy metal genre: “It has been [big for] a really long time. This is our nineteenth year so I think it was about nineteen years ago that there were some really underground things going on in the true metal scene; when the guys started up the Tuska festival. That was about 1998 when we started to see that something was happening, something was ‘vibrating.'”

He continued: “The first Tuska was held at a club in Helsinki with a capacity of 750, and they had two stages over two days. The guy who owned the club and ran the festival realized that it was growing and so already by the second festival it was arranged outdoors for a couple of thousand people per day. It started to blast off really quickly from then.”

Asked if he thinks Tuska fans want to see a lot of Finnish music, or if they prefer to see a representation of the whole worldwide scene, Mäkynen said: “That’s a really good question. It’s always been sort of 50/50. Foreign people who come to the festival want to see local bands; if you come to Finland, you want to see Finnish bands, the big names like STAM1NA, MOKOMA, LORDI, CHILDREN OF BODOM. But if you’re wondering how most Finnish people see Tuska, they’re probably thinking about the big-name foreign bands. In Finland, it’s known as an international festival. And we want to grow it bigger for the international fans and expand the whole feeling that you can come to festival, spend a weekend here, explore Helsinki and have a good trip to Finland. So that’s something we’ve been growing in the last couple of years, and I think we’re doing a good job so far.”

EXTREME’s New Album Will Arrive In Late Spring Or Early Summer

EXTREME guitarist Nuno Bettencourt revealed during an interview with BackStory Events at this past weekend’s NAMM show in Anaheim, California that the band is hoping to release the long-awaited follow-up to to 2008’s “Saudades de Rock” album in late spring or early summer. He added: “We’re excited about it, as bands are. We’re very excited about it.”

Asked what fans can expect to hear from EXTREME‘s forthcoming disc, Nuno joked: “Just a bunch of, you know, stuff that people don’t want anymore — memorable hit songs. You know, just those sorts of things. Good riffs, great songs — the shit that nobody listens to anymore.”

EXTREME singer Gary Cherone told Metalholic last October that fans of EXTREME will be pleased with the musical direction of the band’s new material. He said: “There will be, like all EXTREME records, familiar elements, but also stuff… Over the years, when Nuno and I write, we’re affected by our environment and music changes throughout the years, so those elements… There will still be some new elements to the band as well. Hopefully that always happens; you always wanna grow and evolve and move on. But the guitars will be there, the harmonies will be there, the songs, the hooks, the lyrics… There’ll still be elements of the past, but certainly new elements [as well].”

A live package celebrating EXTREME‘s “Pornograffitti” album was made available last October. Titled “Pornograffitti Live 25 / Metal Meltdown”, it includes a DVD, Blu-ray and audio CD recorded at the band’s show at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Casino on May 30, 2015, where they performed the record in full.

MASTODON To Release ‘Emperor Of Sand’ Album In March

According to Apple‘s iTunes store in Australia, Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON will release their new studio album, “Emperor Of Sand”, on March 31 via Reprise Records.

The track listing for the effort is as follows:

01. Sultan’s Curse
02. Show Yourself
03. Precious Stones
04. Steambreather
05. Roots Remain
06. Word To The Wise
07. Ancient Kingdom
08. Clandestiny
09. Andromeda
10. Scorpion Breath
11. Jaguar God

The lead song, “Sultan’s Curse”, which was previewed Wednesday night on MASTODON‘s official web site, can already be purchased via the Australian iTunes store.

MASTODON‘s follow-up to 2014’s “Once More ‘Round The Sun” album was once again helmed by famed producer Brendan O’Brien, who first collaborated with the band on their 2009 groundbreaking concept album “Crack The Skye”.

MASTODON recorded the new disc at the Quarry in Kennesaw, Georgia before moving to Henson Studios in Los Angeles for the mixing stage.

MASTODON drummer-singer-lyricist Brann Dailor recently told Rolling Stone that the band’s new album grapples with themes of mortality and was inspired by seeing close friends and family diagnosed with cancer in recent years.

“Time is a very big theme of the album,” Dailor said. “How much time do we have left? What are we doing with our time?”

“I get a little movie going in my head about a situation and I start writing about that,” he added. “I try really hard to make it personal and relatable and not too esoteric. It’s embarrassing to write lyrics. I’m a drummer, and I sing a little bit. Together we tackle these things and we figure it out — how to be this vocally driven band that has three people singing that don’t want to sing.”

He went on to say: “It’s about going through cancer, going through chemotherapy and all the things associated with that. I didn’t want to be literal about it. But it’s all in there. You can read between the lines.”

Regarding the musical direction of MASTODON‘s next album, guitarist Bill Kelliher told GuitarMania: “It’s a little bit of the same as the last album, but I think it goes even deeper in certain areas — a couple of more psychedelic parts, a little more technical parts. There are a couple of new places we haven’t gone before. So it’s just kind of a continuation of the last record to me, but even deeper.”

MASTODON has confirmed a spring U.S. headline tour, which will kick off on April 14 in Missoula, Montana, with support from EAGLES OF DEATH METAL and RUSSIAN CIRCLES. The tour also includes stops at several festivals, including the Carolina Rebellion on May 5.

JAMEY JASTA To Support KILLSWITCH ENGAGE & ANTHRAX At 1st 10 ‘Killthrax’ Shows

Metalcore forefathers KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and thrash legends ANTHRAX announced in December that they will hit the road this spring to co-headline a 27-date North American tour, presented by SiriusXM. The bands’ itinerary will also include an April 15 appearance at the Texas Independence Festival in Austin, as well as each band headlining two solo shows separate from the double bill.

With ANTHRAX and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE rotating the closing slot over the course of the dates, the tour will hit the ground on March 29 in Montclair, New Jersey and then criss-cross the continent, wrapping up in Boston on May 7. The intense and dynamic THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA will provide direct support on all dates.

Multi-tasking HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta will perform solo as JASTA and open the first ten shows of the tour — including the two KILLSWITCH ENGAGE headline shows that do not feature ANTHRAX.

Pittsburgh’s CODE ORANGE, who are being hailed as one of the most exciting metal acts of 2017 with the release of their new album “Forever”, will open all of the dates thereafter. CODE ORANGE jump on the tour on April 11.

“I rarely get to tour with JASTA and since the rest of my year is booked up with HATEBREED tours, I jumped at the chance to hit the road and debut some new JASTA songs with some of my favorite people in metal,” said Jamey Jasta. “Not only is the tour hitting some of my favorite cities to play, the lineup offers something for every generation of metal and hardcore fan.
