DIZZY REED Says New GUNS N’ ROSES Music Is ‘In The Process Of Being Finished’

DIZZY REED Says New GUNS N' ROSES Music Is 'In The Process Of Being Finished'GUNS N’ ROSES keyboardist Dizzy Reed says that the band is in the process of putting the finishing touches on new music that will “hopefully” be released “really soon.”

The last GUNS N’ ROSES album, “Chinese Democracy”, came out in 2008 and ended a 17-year gap between collections of all-new material.

Singer Axl Rose, Reed and other members of the current lineup have hinted at material recorded during the “Chinese Democracy” sessions that has yet to surface.

Speaking to VH1 Radio Network‘s Dave Basner earlier this week, Reed said: “There’s a lot of material that’s already done and I think it’s in the process of being finished and eventually we’ll pick out which songs need to come out with which other songs. So that’s in the works. Hopefully it will be out really soon.”

GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist DJ Ashba said in a recent talk with Legendary Rock Interviews that the band has both recording and touring plans in 2015. He revealed, “We are planning on doing quite a bit of touring this coming year. The focus is getting in a studio and putting together what we all feel is the best GUNS N’ ROSES record. Lack of material is not an issue. We have tons of stuff.”

Ashba added. “Axl has two full albums that he has recorded. He has played me a bunch of songs off of that that are incredible! I can’t wait to get in and kind of dive into those as well. I’ve written tons of songs and demoed up a bunch of stuff. I think it is just a matter of getting in and sifting through the piles of material.”

Reed told The Pulse Of Radio that there is both older and newer material lurking around. “We’ve all been at it,” he said. “We’ve all been, you know, handing files back and forth to one another in various combinations of different people, but also there is quite a bit of material that still needs to be finished and needs to be released. And so one or both of those things is gonna happen.”

Rose is the only original member of GUNS N’ ROSES still in the current lineup, which has toured intermittently since 2006 and played its second Las Vegas residency earlier this year.

WENDY DIO Reveals More Details About Upcoming RONNIE JAMES DIO Public Memorial

WENDY DIO Reveals More Details About Upcoming RONNIE JAMES DIO Public MemorialA public memorial for legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) will be held on the fifth anniversary of his death at his gravesite at Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills cemetery in Los Angeles. His wife and manager Wendy Dio tells the “Maximum Threshold” radio show: “Next year, the 16th of May will be five years [since] Ronnie‘s passing, so we are inviting all the fans to come from all over the world. We’re gonna do a big public memorial up at Forest lawn in the Hollywood Hills. And we’ll have bands playing. It will be a celebration of Ronnie‘s life. And the night before, we’re gonna do celebrity bowling. And we’re gonna do a ‘ride for Ronnie‘ with motorcycles on the Sunday, which is on the 17th, and ending up with a barbecue in the park.”

Wendy also revealed that the fifth annual Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund awards gala will probably be held in October 2015. She added: “We’re raising money all the time for cancer. And we’ve raised over a million dollars, actually, since Ronnie passed, and we’ve given M.D. Anderson [Cancer Center in Houston, Texas] over $200,000, with Dr. Ajani — he was Ronnie‘s doctor, actually, and he’s a cancer specialist for stomach cancer. And we’ve also given T.J. Martell [Foundation] over $400,000 and that goes to gastric cancer, stomach cancer, prostate and colon cancers, and it goes to the Vanderbilt research center in Nashville. So we’ve been really busy raising money and giving money away to people, which is what we wanna do. We’re trying to also make sure that men get checked. Women are really good — they usually go to the doctors and get checked — men, you have to drag them there, so we’re trying to make sure that they get checked. Early detection saves lives, and they should get checked.”

According to Wendy, “Ronnie was a very charitable person, and we used to do a lot of things when Ronnie was alive. And I just have done more since he passed, because I wanted to make something of his passing — something positive to come out of it — and that’s how I feel. I feel that life has been good to me, and it’s always good to give back and raise money for different causes, and my causes are animals, cancer and veterans.”

Dio was renowned throughout the world as one of the greatest and most influential vocalists in heavy metal history. The singer, who was recording and touring with SABBATH offshoot HEAVEN & HELL prior to his illness, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in late 2009. He underwent chemotherapy and made what is now his final public appearance in April 2010 at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles.

A free public memorial service was held on May 30, 2010 at Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills cemetery in Los Angeles, attended by more than 1,500 fans, friends and fellow musicians.

In March 2011, it was announced that the surviving members of the final lineup of DIO would embark on a project with former JUDAS PRIEST frontman Tim “Ripper” Owens under the name DIO DISCIPLES.

Rock and metal musicians around the world paid tribute to Dio in the weeks and months following his death. STONE SOUR and SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor shared his feelings with The Pulse Of Radio about the fallen metal icon. “When I got that news that he had passed away, man, it seriously — it broke my heart. It broke it in two. Because honestly, I just feel like there will never be another Ronnie James Dio. He had such a pure voice — and still singing his ass off. I just know he’ll be missed, and I will miss him as well.”

Ex-VAN HALEN and current CHICKENFOOT bassist Michael Anthony also shared his memories of Dio with The Pulse Of Radio. “I don’t know anybody that didn’t grow up listening to his stuff,” he said. “You know, VAN HALEN, we used to do from the first RAINBOW album, we did ‘Man On The Silver Mountain’. I remember one time, the second VAN HALEN tour we were doing some festivals in Europe, and we actually played on the same show as Ronnie’s band. Real powerful voice, you know, and definitely a driving force in hard rock music, that guy was.”

Slash told The Pulse Of Radio that he felt the loss of Dio very keenly. “He’s just somebody I was influenced by,” he said. ” I played all the RAINBOW stuff, I played the DIO stuff, the SABBATH stuff when I was in, you know, high school. I don’t think that it’s really set in what a, you know, huge figure in rock ‘n’ roll we lost, you know. Really major. Probably one of the most influential heavy metal singers of all time.”

LYNCH MOB’s ‘Sun Red Sun’ Gets Release Date

lynchmobsunredsuncd

On December 9, LYNCH MOB will release the “Sun Red Sun” EP via Rat Pak Records. The CD was written and recorded by the same lineup as the “Sound Mountain Sessions” EP: George Lynch on guitar, Oni Logan on vocals, Robbie Crane on bass and Scot Coogan on drums.

“Sun Red Sun” once again highlights the unique pairing of Logan and Lynch, showcasing their ever-evolving songwriting abilities. Mixed and mastered by Chris “The Wizard” Collier (LITA FORD), it offers up straight-forward rockers like “Believers Of The Day” and “Play The Game, as well as more groove-oriented cuts like “Erotika” and “Subliminal Dream”. The CD also features a dynamic Lynch guitar solo track called “Black Waters” as well as an acoustic ballad called “Sun Red Sun”, which is a tribute to late BADLANDS and BLACK SABBATH singer Ray Gillen, who died on December 3, 1993 of AIDS-related complications. The release also features a cover of BAD COMPANY‘s “Burnin’ Sky” and includes four remastered bonus tracks from the original “Sound Mountain Sessions” EP: “Slow Drag”, “World Of Chance”, “City Of Freedom” and “Sucka”.

“I was brothers with Ray,” Oni explained to “The Double Stop” podcast. “He was a good dude. He was a great guy to me. When I arrived into L.A., he was a beautiful man to me. He was an unbelievable talent. So this ‘Sun Red Sun’, it’s his extension for him. And this song ‘Sun Red Sun’ is written in the idea of that I’m speaking for him and I’m speaking for me. ‘Sun Red Sun’… you know, shine on me forever. That kind of thing. So you’ll hear it in the lyrics when you hear the song. So Ray is a dominant and principal meaning in the title of the album.”

Asked what it is about his chemistry with Lynch that keeps him coming back to the band after leaving the group several times in the last few years, Logan said: “It’s [George‘s] undeniable riffage — the riffage of the sexiness that he supplies to me that I get from no other. I can never get it from any other.

“We have a special thing going on. It’s been like that forever. And if you were to ask him, [he would tell you] the same thing: it’s like no other. It’s just the way that it works. Somehow, the energy and the synergy of what it about, it works together. He evokes the riffs that just make me wanna fucking write. That’s fine and simple. That’s it. He’s magical, he’s a purist, he’s a deep thinker, and I think he acknowledges me as the same.

“When he tells me, ‘Oh, man, that was a great lyric,’ I take that and run home with it. ‘Cause we’re acknowledging each other.

“I think we just need to let things happen at this stage. And I’m always gonna be there for it.”

LYNCH MOB‘s last release was the “Unplugged: Live From Sugarhill Studios” EP, which came out in March 2013.

COREY TAYLOR Reveals Title Of STONE SOUR’s Upcoming Covers Album

COREY TAYLOR Reveals Title Of STONE SOUR's Upcoming Covers AlbumSTONE SOUR has set “Meanwhile In Burbank” as the title of its upcoming covers album, tentatively due next year. There’s no word yet on which songs the band intends to include on the disc, which is being recorded at the Burbank, California studio of the group’s drummer, Roy Mayorga.

During an appearance on HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta‘s official podcast, “The Jasta Show”, STONE SOUR singer Corey Taylor said: “We’ve been talking about [recording a collection of covers] forever. I mean, this is something that we’ve been talking about since the first album came out, with STONE SOUR. We’ve always wanted to do this. Even as people have come, people have gone, this is still something we’ve always come back to, and we just never had the opportunity to do it. And we just kind of said, ‘Well, screw it.’

Roy‘s been slowly but surely kind of building his house studio. So we just started doing it like that — fucking low dough, and it sounds killer. There’s no fucking pressure. You’re just having fun. You’re going back to these songs that you just love to listen to, not only just sing. And that’s why it’s called ‘Meanwhile In Burbank’, because, without giving too much away, that’s where Roy lives — he lives in the Valley — so that’s why we call it that. Because it’s, like, that’s what we’re doing right now.”

On its last North American tour, STONE SOUR treated fans to a different cover every night, including METALLICA‘s “Creeping Death”, KISS“Love Gun”, JUDAS PRIEST‘s “Heading Out To The Highway” and PETER GABRIEL‘s “In Your Eyes”. Taylor told The Pulse Of Radio why he enjoys covering other artists’ songs. “The thing I love about playing covers is that it’s a chance to walk in the footsteps of your heroes,” he said. “It’s a chance to have fun. There’s a certain amount of relaxation that comes when you don’t have to worry about your song. This is someone else’s song, you know. This is where you can relax and just remember why you’re a music fan in the first place.”

STONE SOUR completed the touring cycle earlier this year for its recent double album, “House Of Gold And Bones”, which was issued in two parts in 2012 and 2013.

Jim Root, who has played on all five STONE SOUR records to date, did not perform on the last tour. Although the official reason given at the time was that he was staying home to work on the new SLIPKNOT album, it was later revealed that he was dismissed from STONE SOUR. He has since been replaced by Christian Martucci

Root said in a recent interview that he was fired by phone and is still not sure why he was dismissed in the first place.

Root and Taylor continue to work together in SLIPKNOT, whose new album, “.5: The Gray Chapter”, came out on October 21.

SLIPKNOT’s ‘.5: The Gray Chapter’ Tops U.S. Chart

SLIPKNOT‘s long-awaited fifth studio album, “.5: The Gray Chapter”, sold around 132,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores on October 21 via Roadrunner.

The is the second No. 1 album for SLIPKNOT, whose fourth full-length effort, 2008’s “All Hope Is Gone”, topped the Billboard chart after an extraordinary SoundScan recount. The album was initially announced as a No. 2 debut, a mere 13 units behind THE GAME‘s No. 1 debut, marking the closest margin in SoundScan history. The chart positions resulted from a reported 238,272 copies of “All Hope Is Gone” its first week in stores, while THE GAME‘s “LAX” reported 238,285. With such an unprecedented margin, Roadrunner Records and WEA requested an historic recount. SoundScan obliged and chart positions were reversed, with SLIPKNOT claiming No. 1 and a new margin of 1,134 albums. Final recount numbers are 239,516 for “All Hope Is Gone” and 238,382 for “LAX” sold during first week of release.

“.5: The Gray Chapter” caps a very turbulent period for the masked rockers in which they dealt with the death of Paul Gray and the firing of drummer Joey Jordison, both longtime members and songwriters. Despite it all, singer Corey Taylor told The Pulse Of Radio he’s proud of what the band has accomplished this time out. “The fact that we were able to kind of pull ourselves back up and not only go in and make a really good album, but make an exceptional album, in my opinion, I think it’s a testament to just how talented this band is,” he said. “It’s a testament to how much passion we have for it. It’s a testament to how much we’re willing to fight to accomplish everything that we want to accomplish. I’m excited for people to hear this, because to me I think it’s one of the best albums we’ve ever made.”

Gray died in 2010 from a drug overdose, while Jordison was let go last December, just before SLIPKNOT began recording the new album.

Although the identities of their replacements have not been officially revealed, they are believed to be drummer Jay Weinberg and bassist Alessandro “Vman” Venturella.

Meanwhile, Taylor defended himself in a new interview with Britain’s XFM Radio from accusations that he orchestrated both Jordison‘s dismissal from SLIPKNOT and the firing of the band’s guitarist, Jim Root, from the band that Taylor and Root founded together, STONE SOUR.

Taylor, calling himself “one of the most hated dudes right now,” explained, “That’s the burden of being the frontman. [But] I’m not the boss. Trust me. I’m not the boss in either band. It’s very much a committee. I help make decisions, but I don’t make decisions. But that’s the perception.”

SLIPKNOT celebrated the arrival of the new disc this past weekend with two headlining performances on Saturday (October 25) and Sunday (October 26) at its own Knotfest in San Bernardino, California, along with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, VOLBEAT, HELLYEAH, NOTHING MORE, ATREYU, IN THIS MOMENT, OF MICE & MEN and many more.

SLIPKNOT will head out on a headlining North American tour with special guests KORN beginning tonight (Wednesday, October 29) in El Paso, Texas.

ARMORED SAINT To Return With New Studio Album In 2015

ARMORED SAINT To Return With New Studio Album In 2015; First Songtitles RevealedVeteran Los Angeles metallers ARMORED SAINT have inked a new deal with Metal Blade Records for the release of the band’s next studio album, due in 2015.

“We have been with Metal Blade for the last three records now,” ARMORED SAINT singer John Bush said during an appearance on the inaugural episde of the “Inside Metal” show with host Bob Nalbandian.

Bush, who fronted ANTHRAX between 1992 and 2005, and temporarily rejoined the group for a number of shows in late 2009 and early 2010 but stepped aside in May 2010 in order to make room for the return of Joey Belladonna, added: “[Metal Blade head honcho] Brian [Slagel] is awesome. Without Brian, there would, basically, not be ARMORED SAINT, quite frankly; there would not be a band. I mean, for him I think it’s a labor of love. He’s not looking to go out and buy a new house in Miami Beach with the revenue that he’s gonna get from ARMORED SAINT. He does it ’cause he cares, and he wants it, and he believes in us, and he knows that he likes the music that we’re making, and we’re extremely honored and happy that he does that.”

Regarding the progress of the songwriting sessions for ARMORED SAINT‘s next CD, Bush said: “We’ve been writing songs for about a year, a year and a couple months, maybe, and we’re about ready to do drums.

“Everything’s done a little differently these days, as far as recording-wise. But a lot of vocals have been already sung. And it’s gonna be awesome.”

He continued: “[Bassist] Joey [Vera] is gonna produce. He’s just really coming into his own as far as a jack of all trades, and a master. He’s awesome. He’s a great writer. He’s very, very meticulous in the way he does everything, and he gets the job done. He’s written some great stuff. And we have an awesome camaraderie as far as writing together.

Bush added: “I’m proud of what we’re doing, I think it’s gonna be a cool record.

“We don’t have a title yet, but it will come out next year, and then we’ll do some shows.”

ARMORED SAINT‘s new album will feature the following songs, among others:

* “Win Hands Down”
* “Mess”
* “Muscle Memory”
* “An Exercise In Debauchery”
* “In An Instant”
* “Up Yours”

About the track “Up Yours”, Bush said: “It’s gonna be a great song. [It’s got a] very big anthem-type vibe to it. It’s not gonna sound anything like ‘Can U Deliver’ [from ARMORED SAINT‘s debut album, 1984’s ‘March Of The Saint’], but if there was a vibe that just kind of felt like that, it’s this song. And it’s cool. It’s got a cool title and a fun chorus that you can sing along to.”

ARMORED SAINT‘s latest album, 2010’s “La Raza”, sold around 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 18 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. “La Raza” also entered the German Media Control chart at No. 96 and the Canadian Independent chart at No. 85.

The classic first EP from ARMORED SAINT was reissued on August 13, 2012 in Europe via Metal Blade Records with bonus tracks and etching on vinyl.
