GLENN HUGHES Recording New Solo Album

Legendary bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, CALIFORNIA BREED) has entered a studio in Copenhagen, Denmark to begin recording his first solo album in eight years. Joining him during the sessions are Søren Andersen (guitar), Pontus Engborg (drums) and Lachlan “Lachy” Doley (keyboards).

The first video report from the studio can be seen below.

In a June 2015 interview with myRockworld, Hughes said that his upcoming solo album would be “a rock record with very Glenn Hughes-sounding music.” He added: “I’m very excited about the emotional quality of my songs; I’m very, very happy.”

Hughes previously credited his involvement with the supergroup BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION as the catalyst leading to his return to rock music. “What I will do on the next Glenn album is portray the image of the Glenn Hughes on the BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION albums,” he told IHeartGuitarBlog.com in 2011. “Because it’s the same Glenn that was in DEEP PURPLE, really. The classic rock iconic Glenn that, let’s be clear, the majority of the fans want. The ‘F.U.N.K.’ album was very well recorded and I love the songs, but that’s for a cultured audience and a different kind of audience. It’s more of a cult audience, if you will. But my audience now with BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION and a lot of my fans are rockers, man, so it’s time to rock. So the next album will be a rock record.”

Hughes‘ latest solo CD, “First Underground Nuclear Kitchen (F.U.N.K.)”, received its official North American release on October 7, 2008 via Blistering Records through Ryko/Warner distribution. The CD came out in Europe in May 2008 via Frontiers Records.

Produced by Glenn in Los Angeles, after countless hours spent writing in his home studio, “F.U.N.K.” was described by Hughes as “a roots album, a true account of my musical heritage but also fearless and multi-dimensional.” All drums on the record were played by Chad Smith of the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, while Luis Maldonado took care of the majority of the guitars.
